CALL TO ORDER

Commission Chair Gloria Crawford called the Wednesday, June 21, 2017, Commission meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner S. Malik and seconded by Commissioner Selim that the June 21, 2017, agenda be approved as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner S. Malik and seconded by Commissioner Griffin Paul that the June 7, 2017, minutes be approved as amended. The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioners Khairallah and Selim abstaining.

STAFF ISSUES

Deputy Director Patricia Stephan-Fawcett updated the Commissioners with the May Monthly Report. The staff met all but one of the Balance Score Card goals for the month.

Commissioners discussed adding customer service survey to online training module.

Requirements for Minutes: Deputy Director Patricia Stephan-Fawcett provided update on Minutes requirements. The minutes now contain and will continue to contain the names of Commissioners who abstain or vote against a motion.

COMMISSION BUSINESS

HRC #2014015E – CONCILIATION. It was moved by Commissioner Solon and seconded by Commissioner S. Malik that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

HRC #2013006E – CONCILIATION. It was moved by Commissioner Solon and seconded by Commissioner Griffin Paul that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

HRC#2016115H – FIR. It was moved by Commissioner Shipman and seconded by Commissioner Griffin Paul that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

HRC#2017024H – FIR. It was moved by Commissioner S. Malik and seconded by Commissioner Selim that a finding of reasonable cause based on evidence sufficient to establish that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Solon abstaining.

COMMUNITY CONCERNS

Commissioners were encouraged to visit the Holocaust Museum and visit the museum’s website to learn more about former Commissioner Michel Margosis’ life story, which is featured on the website.

Commissioners discussed the murder of Nabra Hassanen and a possible Commission expression of sympathy.
