CALL TO ORDER 

Commission Chair Gloria Crawford took a brief moment to introduce and welcome the New Commissioner Brayan Hudson to the Commission.  Commission Chair Gloria Crawford called the Wednesday, November 7, 2018 Commission meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

Approval of Agenda:  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Torres that the November 7, 2018 agenda be approved as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Selim and seconded by Commissioner Torres that the October 17, 2018 minutes be approved as amended.  The motion passed by majority vote, with Commissioner Khairallah abstaining.

 

STAFF ISSUES:  Director Sanders updated the Commission on the September monthly report.  The Staff met the balance score card goals for the month.  Director Saunders also informed the Commissioners about the year-end report for 2018; there were 230 closed cases.  The number is due to the large number of complaints from County. Agencies.  Director Saunders informed the Commissioners of OHREP’s newest investigator: Precious Hopkins has officially started and we are happy to have her on board.   

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS

 

HRC #2018063H – FIR  It was moved by Commissioner Khairallah and seconded by Commissioner Selim that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP.  The motion passed by majority vote, with Commissioner Alber opposing

 

HRC# 2018071H - FIR  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Khairallah that this case be tabled until the next meeting so that the investigator may be present.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.  

 

HRC# 2013077E - Conciliation It was moved by Commissioner Torres and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2018080H- Conciliation It was moved by Commissioner Khairallah and seconded by Commissioner Shipman that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2014098E- Conciliation It was moved by Commissioner Torres and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented.  The motion passed by majority vote, with Commissioner Alber opposing

 

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS:  Future Awards Programs - Tabled until the New Year.  This matter will be put on the Agenda for the first Commission meeting after the first of the year.

 

Commission Chair Crawford stated that the Commissioners need to be considering officers to elect, and that any nominations be e-mailed to Deputy Director Patricia Stephan-Fawcett.  Commissioner Crawford would like to get nominations for the future officers.
