CALL TO ORDER

Acting Commission Chair Malik called the Wednesday, September 19, 2018, Commission meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Commissioner Malik informed the Commissioners that he will be acting as Chair in Commissioner Crawford’s absence.

 

Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner Khairallah and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that the September 19, 2018 agenda be approved as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Torres that the August 15, 2018 minutes be approved as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Khairallah and seconded by Commissioner Alber that the June 27, 2018 minutes be approved as presented.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Shipman abstaining.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Bhinge that the August 1, 2018 minutes be approved as presented.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Shipman and Commissioner Alber abstaining.

 

STAFF ISSUES:  Director Sanders informed the Commission that OHREP has made an offer to Precious Hopkins.  There is still a vacancy for another investigator position, however, due to grant founding restrictions the number of investigators will not increase after the new investigator begins.  Mr. Saunders stated that the current investigators are the most productive group of investigators that he has worked with. 

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS

 

HRC #2013151E - Conciliation Failure/Public Hearing Consideration.  It was moved by Commissioner Torres and seconded by Commissioner Khairallah that that a Public Hearing not be scheduled in the matter of Wallace v. Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon & Spa and that this case be closed before this Commission.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Alber abstaining.

 

HRC# 2018040H - FIR  It was moved by Commissioner Khairallah and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2018074H - Conciliation  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Khairallah that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2015069E - Appeal  It was moved by Commissioner Khairallah and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that staff findings be upheld and this matter be dismissed due to no cause finding.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Alber abstaining.

 

HRC# 2016118E – Appeal  It was moved by Commissioner Torres and seconded by Commissioner Shipman that staff findings be upheld and this matter be dismissed due to no cause finding.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Alber voting against the motion.

 

HRC# 2013178E -- Conciliation Failure/Public Hearing Consideration.  It was moved by Commissioner Torres and seconded by Commissioner Khairallah that that a Public Hearing not be scheduled in the matter of Brown v. AECOM and that this case be closed before this Commission.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS:  There were no Community Concerns.

 

PENDING BUSINESS: There was no Pending Business.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:  There was no New Business.
