GENERATOR TECHNICIAN
(Electronic Equipment Technician I)

Description:

Responds to service calls for emergency standby generators, automatic transfer switches and associated equipment located in commercial buildings. Performs Technician I-level work installing, maintaining, and repairing emergency standby generators. Duties of this position require knowledge of the operating characteristics and methods used in the installation, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electronic equipment emergency standby power generators, automatic transfer switches and related apparatus. Duties are performed under general supervision.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus completion of an apprentice-level vocational training program in electronics; and one year of experience in the maintenance and repair of the electronic and electromechanical equipment specific to the position.

 

Special
Requirements:

Possession of a valid driver's license. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical examination to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment. Must be fluent in the English language. Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable position.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

A license from Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) on diesel and gas engines. Technical training in power generator maintenance or a related field. Five years of progressive experience repairing or maintaining power generators (such as Onan, Caterpillar and Katolight generators).
