CHILD CARE SPECIALIST I

Description:

This position is located in the Pennino Building in Fairfax, Virginia, with possible weekly assignments in one of the Department of Family Services Regional offices: South County, Reston or Annandale. Conducts outreach activities and holds informational sessions with potential child care providers and center staff. Negotiates vendor agreements for participation in CCAR (Child Care Assistance and Referral). Provides one-on-one training and group workshops for providers and also refers them to other training resources. Provides services to families eligible for participation in the program. Assists families in choosing child care and follows up to determine that placements are meeting the needs of the child and family. Investigates problems that are reported and assists with the resolution. Participates in planning, developing and monitoring program standards which meet applicable state regulations and local policies and standards. Works on special projects. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Child Care Specialist III, CCAR.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in early childhood education, psychology, social work, or a closely related field; plus some responsible experience in day care administration or early child development programs.

 

Special
Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check, to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in early childhood education, early childhood development, social work or family studies. Experience working with subsidy programs. Excellent oral and writing skills. Some responsible experience in child care administration, early child development programs or working with low income families.
