Current Class "A" CDL; or a Class "B" or "C" CDL or a CDL Instruction Permit required*.

Reports to the following office with daily dispatches to parks throughout the county: 1929 Pimmit Drive in Falls Church, Virginia. Oversees and participates in the work of an assigned maintenance crew, or parks and mowing maintenance crew. Inspects and completes maintenance of park facilities and grounds to include mowing and snow removal. Removes litter and performs carpentry, construction, repair and painting of facilities as necessary. Determines and lists materials, tools and equipment needed to complete daily assignments. Supervises, evaluates and ensures that staff has been trained in and follows safety requirements for equipment operation and maintenance procedures. Operates a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, mowers and other equipment. Uses gas power equipment. Inspects and drives a truck and trailer, and hauls equipment and materials. Informs supervisors of conditions requiring special attention. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Completes required documentation and daily work reports.



Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus two years of experience in maintenance, construction or a related field.



To be considered for this vacancy, your resume must clearly indicate possession of a current Class "A" CDL; or a Class "B" or "C" CDL, or a CDL Instruction Permit (see Note below). The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical examination to the satisfaction of the employer.

In addition, the appointee must possess or obtain a valid DOT (Department of Transportation) medical card. The appointee must demonstrate a negative drug test; undergo character and background checks as specified by the federal DOT regulations; show compliance with DOT drug/alcohol testing requirements as demonstrated by reports from prior employers; and participate in random and other required alcohol and controlled substances testing.

Must be able to perform medium to heavy labor outdoors in all weather conditions; operate a commercial motor vehicle; and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.



At least two years of supervisory experience. Ability to operate small and large mowing equipment and farm tractors. Knowledge of irrigation systems. Working knowledge of personal computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite.

* To be considered for the Maintenance Crew Chief level, your resume MUST indicate possession of a valid Class "A" CDL. This vacancy may be filled by a less qualified applicant at the level of Senior Maintenance Worker (Grade S13, $31,904 to $42,539) with an underfill agreement. The minimum requirements for this level are: any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to completion of tenth grade, plus two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field. If you do not possess a valid Class "A" CDL, you must possess Class "B" or "C" CDL, or a CDL Instruction Permit and this must be stated on your resume in order to be considered at the Senior Maintenance Worker level. Applicants hired at this level will be noncompetitively promoted to the advertised level upon completion of an underfill agreement requiring that a Class "A" CDL be obtained within six months of appointment. Failure to obtain the Class "A" CDL within six months of appointment will result in transfer to another Senior Maintenance Worker position (if one is available) or termination.



Work hours are typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional weekend, morning, evening, holiday, shift and overtime hours will be required.
