$20.21 to $26.95/hour  (Grade S19)

Part-time positions scheduled to work 20 hours per week will be filled at various Fairfax County Public Libraries from this announcement. Regular schedule includes working every Saturday or Sunday.

Uses strong customer service skills to help library users of all ages meet their information, educational and recreational needs. Conducts thorough reference interviews and selects appropriate print or electronic resources to meet the needs of a diverse public. Provides active reader's advisory service, especially for children and teens. Plans and presents programs for pre-school and school-age children, including book talking. May train and supervise student volunteers. Assists with managing and marketing children's and young adult collections. Communicates and interprets library policies and procedures to the public. Performs clerical support tasks as needed. Cooperates with all coworkers to create an environment that is welcoming to all members of the public.



Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, liberal arts or sciences, education, or a related discipline; plus two years of experience working in a library, bookstore, educational or research setting.



Experience working with youth in a public library or educational setting. Familiarity with children's and young adult literature. Experience providing programs and book talks to children.
