$21.17 to $28.22/hour  (Grade S20)
 
Description:

This is a part-time, 20 hours per week position. The regular schedule includes working every Sunday.

Responds to the needs of library customers of all ages at the information desk. Determines the scope of customers' questions and selects appropriate resources using both print and electronic resources. Serves as a primary resource for assisting youth with their informational needs. Advises youth directly on leisure reading, and works with other staff to ensure that youth are skillfully advised on reading. Works with staff to plan, publicize and present programs to children and young adults. Offers tours to school groups. Presents programs in schools, for community groups and in the library as branch scheduling permits. May develop branch displays to highlight various aspects of the collection. May work on system-wide projects for the enhancement of library services to youth. May facilitate book discussion groups for youth.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Graduation from college with a master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school, or completion of coursework towards a master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school. Virginia certification or Virginia provisional certification is required within three months of hire date.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Knowledge of children's and young adult literature. Experience providing programs to children and teens. Experience working with youth in a public library or educational setting.
