SOCIAL WORK SUPERVISOR

Description:

Works from the Human Services Building in Alexandria, Virginia. Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision to social workers in the Child Protective Services (CPS) program to ensure work is in compliance with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures. Directs social workers in conducting CPS investigations and family assessments, as well as in the provision of ongoing casework for court ordered and voluntary clients. Supervises administrative support staff. Works with other supervisors in Child Protective Services, the Children, Youth & Families Division, as well as the department to ensure a holistic response to the child welfare and human service needs of families. Adheres to family engagement best practices. Assigns and monitors caseloads through the use of various computer applications. Monitors case activity, files and outcomes. Assures compliance with mandates related to timeliness and completion. Authorizes expenditures from various funding sources. Develops and maintains working relationships with community resources for collaboration, and the efficient and effective coordination of services provided to children and families. Participates in a rotation of direct supervision to CPS social workers who provide an emergency response to reports received outside of normal business hours, which will require a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. This announcement may be used to fill future CPS Social Work Supervisor positions in various locations.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus four years of increasingly responsible, directly-related professional experience in the social services or human services field. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of required experience.

 

Special
Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Master's degree in social work (MSW). Strong clinical skills and a family-focused, strengths-based approach to working with parents, children, and the community. Familiarity with the needs of a diverse, multi-cultural clientele. Extensive experience with CPS policies and procedures. Knowledge of processes required by the Comprehensive Services Act (CSA).
