Personnel/Payroll Processing,
Department of Human Resources

$46,199 to $61,599  (Grade S21)

Coordinates and processes a high volume of personnel actions, including (but not limited to) new hires, transfers, promotions, retirements, terminations and other HRIS entry as necessary in support of personnel, benefits, and payroll data entry for all Fairfax County employees. Composes communication in support of actions, including email, telephone and the Web. Processes a high volume of transactions in an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) environment. Advises agency payroll, HR contacts, and employees of policies, procedures, rules, regulations, schedules; and may present training materials on specific subjects either in person, electronically or by other forms of communication. Processes retroactive and supplemental adjustments to pay. Must be able to calculate a paycheck manually using complex FLSA rules and variable types of pay.



Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to an associate degree; plus five years of experience providing administrative support.



The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a credit history check to the satisfaction of the employer.



Experience: demonstrating attention to detail; meticulous recordkeeping; accuracy; and filing of confidential, critical and legal documentation. Must have expert math skills. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office computer software, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. Must be successful in delivering payroll services in a fast-past, evolving division and be able to work successfully on a team and as an individual contributor. Knowledge of county or public payroll processes, or similar type large volume payrolls with an ERP similar to SAP is preferred. Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and/or other professional certifications a plus.
