Description:

The Fire and Rescue Department has a vacancy for a professional, detail-oriented individual to work in the Human Resources Section of the Safety and Personnel Services Division, located at the Massey Building. Duties and responsibilities include: answers primary published departmental and recruitment phone lines; determines nature of calls, identifies the appropriate staff person responsible for handling the customer's issue and redirects as appropriate; and provides routine information. Greets visitors, notifies staff member of arrival and escorts individuals as appropriate. Signs for deliveries and other items. Accepts delivery of subpoenas. Performs general clerical duties including--but not limited to--typing, data entry, copying, filing, mailings, inventory and ordering of office supplies, and reviews/edits various documents. Opens, sorts, and logs mail for the HR Manager. Reviews all of the HR Manager's incoming calls and redirects as appropriate. Creates and maintains a log to track work items to completion. Prepares and processes correspondence, manuals, standard operating procedures, general orders and other documents in accordance to Fairfax County and departmental policies and procedures. Trains personnel on front desk duties and responsibilities. Maintains appearance and maintenance of equipment in the reception area and the supply/copier room. Assists with picture ID and proxy card processing the promotional and recognition ceremonies; and coordination of the departmental Commercial Driver's License process in compliance with Fairfax County regulations and standards. Maintains inventory and orders office supplies.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus one year of experience providing administrative support.

 

Special
Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a credit history check to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Experience handling a high volume of calls (multi-line system) and visitors in reception area Two years of experience providing administrative support. Demonstrated adherence to confidentiality. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite computer software.
