FINANCIAL SPECIALIST III


Fire and Rescue Department

Description:

Location: The Massey Building, 4100 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, Virginia. Serves as the department lead for financial policies, procedures and controls. Reviews, analyzes and evaluates fiscal operational methods and established practices to improve the operating efficiency and effectiveness of the county's fire and rescue processes through effective financial management. Performs analyses to support effective and appropriate decision-making over a wide variety of complex issues involving department financial transactions. Ensures integrity of Fire and Rescue financial data on automated accounting systems, recommends changes in procedures to increase efficiency. Performs audits of funds. Coordinates department-wide reconciliations. Represents Fiscal Services Division in countywide projects. Supervises and mentors staff members to assure compliance with department, and county financial policies and procedures.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting; or a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field that has been supplemented by at least six credit hours of basic accounting principles and concepts; plus four years of professional-level finance or business administration experience. A master's degree in a related field or CPA may substitute for one year of experience.

Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a credit check to the satisfaction of the employer prior to employment.

This position may require irregular working hours, mandatory overtime in busy seasons and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. The appointee to this position will be required to support the department during an emergency activation on a 24/7 basis according to department needs and will be required to participate in department activities as an emergency response organization. In addition, the appointee to this position may be instructed to work at locations other than the primary work site in the Massey Building and as a result may need to navigate uneven terrain.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial management and auditing, including five years of supervisory experience. Proven project management experience. Experience with the SAP financial system. Previous project leadership with process documentation and redesign. Strong English language skills and communication skills are critical components of this position.
