CLAIMS SPECIALIST I

Description:

Handles automobile liability, bodily injury, general liability, subrogation and first party property damage claims for Fairfax County Government's in-house claims management program. Investigates and determines liability, completes onsite investigations and substantiates all aspects of each claim. Works closely with the County Attorney on claims in litigation. As a member of the Risk Management Division's team, participates in strategic planning and establishment of program goals and objectives. Provides training to county agencies and employees on claims related matters. Reports directly to the Claims Manager.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a field related to insurance, financial management, business administration or claims management; or

Bridge Class Employment Standards: Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level. Note that persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical administrative experience may not substitute this experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Designation and/or Associate in Claims (AIC) Designation. Knowledge of Virginia tort liability laws. Strong knowledge of claims investigation techniques. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong customer service experience. Ability to multi-task, manage priorities and adapt to change. Valid driver's license. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
