Performs planning, implementation and coordination functions for the Animal Shelter's volunteer program. Determines volunteer program needs by collaborating with Animal Shelter staff and community organizations. Recommends and develops written policies and procedures needed to administer the Animal Shelter's volunteer program. Formulates, recommends and implements plans for recruiting, screening, training, directing and evaluating Animal Shelter volunteers. Recruits and coordinates volunteers for the Animal Shelter's programs. Coordinates training for all volunteers. Designs job descriptions for volunteer positions. Updates volunteer handbook and develops other written materials for the volunteer program. Serves as liaison between the Animal Shelter and community groups. Learns all aspects of shelter operations. Assists with the layout and production of the Animal Shelter's newsletter, adoption packets, promotional pamphlets and other shelter publications and makes updates to the Animal Shelter's Web page. Monitors volunteer service hours and communicates regularly with volunteers through the shelter volunteer software program. Oversees the Volunteer Coordinator Program Manager (Volunteer Coordinator I) and provides guidance and assistance for the foster program, rescue partners program and other programs. Performs other duties as assigned.



Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in one of the social or behavioral sciences, liberal arts, education or personnel administration or related field and one year of professional volunteer service coordination experience, including recruitment, selection, and placement of volunteers.



The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.



Three years of progressively responsible volunteer coordination in an animal-related organization. Two years of supervisory experience.
