Position is located in the Residential Services Division at Boys Probation House ( 4410 Shirley Gate Road, Fairfax, Virginia), a post-dispositional community-based residential group home for adolescent males on probation or parole, ages 14-18 in the therapeutic program and/or adolescent males ages 17-19 assigned to the Transitional Living program. Team Leader of a therapeutic unit; and Acting Administrator in charge of facility, in the absence of the Director and Assistant Directors. Participates in the supervision of the counseling staff with the Director, and provides input for performance evaluations. Participates in the hiring process of relief and merit staff. Lead trainer for new employees, and staff; supervises interns. Reviews case files to ensure compliance with DJJ standards. Provides case management, counseling, and supervision to juveniles court ordered into the program. Conducts assessments for clients' needs, formulates treatment plans; leads individual, group and family counseling sessions; coordinates, implements, and monitors delivery of individual service plans. Ensures safety of residents and security of the facility in the evenings, overnights, and weekends. Conducts building inspections and coordinates maintenance activities. Ensures the health care and physical well-being of residents through appropriate disbursement of medication and administration of first aid. Operates a 15-passenger van and transports residents to a variety of community activities, as well as accompanying residents on a minimum of two camping trips a year.



Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in social/behavioral sciences, law enforcement, or education; and two years of professional experience in probation work.



The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer as a condition of hiring and periodically thereafter. Must have a valid driver's license in state of residence. Must undergo a medical screening prior to starting work. TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. First Aid and CPR certifications, Medication Administration certification, Handle With Care (physical restraint procedures and techniques) certification required within a specified time frame after appointment and recertification annually thereafter.



A master's degree in counseling, social work or related field. Experience in working with adolescent clients. Experience working in a residential setting. Ability to work with complex behavioral problems and respond to crisis situations. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Code of Virginia and Department of Juvenile Justice Standards. Working knowledge of Department of Juvenile Justice Tracking System (JTS), and VA Supreme Court Case Management System (CMS). Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel).



Candidates will be interviewed by a panel and a written exercise will be administered.



This position is considered Essential Personnel for purposes of continuity of operations and may be required to respond during inclement weather or emergency situations identified.
