Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court

$45,137 to $60,183  (Grade S20)

The position is located at the Juvenile Court Shelter Care II (10670 Page Avenue, Fairfax), a temporary care community-based residential group home for male and female court clients age 11 through 17. Shifts include mostly overnight but some day shifts, weekends and holidays. Responsible for providing counseling and supervision to juveniles who are court ordered into the program. The primary goal is to ensure the health and physical well-being of residents by providing constant supervision and structured activities. Conducts assessment of clients' needs, leads individual and group counseling sessions, and involves residents in beneficial activities. Implements and monitors behavior management programs aimed at helping residents accept personal constructive behavior. Presents a positive role model by always displaying appropriate and constructive behavior. Conducts building inspections and coordinates maintenance activities. Ensures the safety of residents and building security on evenings, overnights, and weekends. Operates a 15-passenger van.



Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree.



The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer as a condition of hiring and periodically thereafter. Must have a valid driver's license in state of residence. Must undergo a medical screening prior to starting work. TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. First Aid and CPR certifications, Medication Administration certification, Handle With Care (physical restraint procedures and techniques) certification required within a specified time frame after appointment and recertification annually thereafter.



Experience working with adolescents in a residential setting. Ability to work with complex behavioral problems and respond to crisis situations. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with residents. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Excellent interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills.



In addition to a panel interview, a written exercise may be administered.



This position is considered Essential Personnel for purposes of continuity of operations and may be required to respond during inclement weather or emergency situations identified.



This announcement may be used to fill multiple overnight positions within Shelter Care II.
