AQUATIC SUPERVISOR
(Park/Recreation Specialist II)

Description:

Assigned to work at one of the RECenters* within the Park Authority. Manages an aquatic facility and programs. Directs staff in planning and operations of facilities, programs and services. Identifies and implements service improvements. Develops short- and long-range plans for operations and usage. Projects maintenance and capital improvement needs. Coordinates with agency staff to develop aquatic programming goals. Researches, develops and implements aquatic programs, special events and services. Plans, implements and evaluates a financially self-supporting aquatic program of classes, rentals and general public activities for all ages and abilities. Inspects and ensures cleanliness, maintenance, safety and operational effectiveness of facilities. Purchases materials and supplies. Prepares facility budget, projects revenue and oversees financial record-keeping and reporting. Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates all facility staff and volunteers. Interacts with user groups, community groups and citizens.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in recreation and park management, therapeutic recreation or a closely related field; plus two years of progressively responsible experience in park or recreation services related work, as applicable to the position (i.e., working in an aquatics facility).

 

Special
Requirements:

Required certifications include: Pool Operator (Fairfax County), certified Swimming Instructor or Swim Coach and Water Exercise Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR and First Aid. Must successfully pass a medical clearance test to use a respirator. Must pass Fairfax County approved Pool Operator test with 30 days of employment. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

At least two years of experience managing an aquatic facility to include financial management, operation of filtration equipment, handling chemical equipment, coordinating routine and major maintenance, programming a wide array of aquatic classes (swimming, water exercise, safety), competitive meets, public recreational swimming activities, and coordinating group use of pool. Experience hiring, training and supervising lifeguards and aquatic instructors; and ensuring facility compliance with local, state and federal regulations related to operating an aquatic facility and programs. Experience using the ParkNet system; the SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (FOCUS); and Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Excellent customer service, communication and customer service skills. Current certifications as a Fairfax County approved pool operator, lifeguard instructor, swimming instructor, and water exercise instructor.

*The work location for this position is not known at this time. The position may be assigned to any of Fairfax County Park Authority's RECenters.

 

Note:

Work hours will include rotating shifts to include evening, weekend and holiday coverage; and also facility Manager on Duty and pool service required shifts.
