Performs skilled three-phase and single-phase electrical work. Maintains and repairs various types of sophisticated, specialized electronically powered and controlled, machinery located in wastewater pumping stations, treatment plants, and flow metering stations throughout the county. Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and sound judgment. Provides guidance, supervision and direction to Industrial Electrician IIs as required. Performs highly skilled preventive maintenance and operational checks on a variety of single-phase and three-phase pumps, electrical motors, generators and electronic control devices. Determines the requirements for electrical repair work by visual inspection and conducts tests as necessary to meet electrical code requirements and ensure continuity of station operations. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Industrial Electrical Supervisor.



Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education or equivalent and six years of experience as an industrial electrician.



Must have and maintain a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Master Electrician's license. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment. Must have and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to distinguish colors; ability to enter confined spaces with weight restriction of 310 pounds. Position requires stooping and extended standing; frequent exposure to loud noises; rare exposure to airborne substances; and routine climbing.



Experience in troubleshooting complex industrial controls, HVAC systems and generators. Knowledgeable in the use of industrial electrical testing equipment and computer aided analyzing equipment.



This position requires a five-day work schedule with participation in the trouble response after-hours program. The position is therefore required to work an on-call schedule, on a rotating basis, to respond to 24-hour trouble calls. In addition, this position is designated as one of the agency's emergency personnel positions, which are essential to providing uninterrupted sewer service to citizens during inclement weather or other types of operational emergencies, resulting in occasional overtime hours being required.
