SOCIAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR

Description:

The position will work from one of the department's offices in Alexandria, Fairfax, Annandale or Reston, Virginia. Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision to social services specialists in the Child Protective Services (CPS) Program to ensure work is in compliance with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures. Directs social services specialists in conducting CPS investigations and family assessments, as well as in the provision of ongoing casework for court-ordered and voluntary clients. Supervises administrative support staff. Works with other supervisors in Child Protective Services, the Children, Youth & Families Division, and the department to ensure a holistic response to the child welfare and human service needs of families. Adheres to family engagement best practices. Responsibilities also include assigning and monitoring caseloads through the use of various computer applications; monitoring case activity, files and outcomes; assuring compliance with mandates related to timeliness and completion; authorizing expenditures from various funding sources; developing and maintaining working relationships with community resources for collaboration and the efficient and effective coordination of services provided to children and families. May provide direct supervision of CPS social services specialists who work non-traditional hours, which will require a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus four years of increasingly responsible, directly-related professional experience in the social services or human services field. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of required experience.

 

Special
Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Master's degree in social work (MSW). Strong clinical skills and a family-focused, strengths-based approach to working with parents, children, and the community. Familiarity with the needs of a diverse, multi-cultural clientele. Extensive experience with CPS policies and procedures. Knowledge of processes required by the Comprehensive Services Act (CSA).
