PARK RECREATION SPECIALIST I

Description:

The primary function of this position is the management of the James Lee Community Center theatre, to include programming and outreach. Schedules theatre to accommodate agency, county and community users; ensures that the theatre's programs and services meet community needs. Uses written and oral communication to communicate with users on the status of production, rehearsal, and workshops. Develops new, and maintains existing, partnerships with the theatre community and community at-large. Researches, develops and implements new programs targeted to the interests of the participants. Administers performing arts and facility use rental contracts in accordance with department policies and procedures. Conducts outreach to schools, advisory councils, civic associations, other county agencies and non-profits. Works with technical representatives of outside performing arts groups to establish technical requirements supporting professional productions. Makes necessary arrangements for activities including reservations, equipment requests, and supplies. Maintains inventory and working condition of theatre equipment to include lighting, scenery, sound, and stage effects and provides technical training to all users of theatre. Evaluates programs and activities. Supervises theatre volunteers and theatre limited-term staff. During breaks in theatre productions and in the absence of theatre responsibilities, may assume Assistant Director responsibilities at the community center at the direction of the Community Center director; duties are performed under the supervision of the Community Center director. 40-hour work week includes evenings and weekends.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to the graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with an associate degree in recreation, park management, therapeutic recreation, or a closely related field; plus two years of related experience in recreation center or park operations, or community-based program coordination or a related field, as applicable to the position.

 

Special
Requirements:

CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in recreation education, theatre management, or related field. At least two years of experience working with groups to organize or coordinate community theatre activities. Two years of technical theatre experience.
