Description:

The Fire and Rescue Department seeks an Occupational Health and Safety Analyst to manage and coordinate all aspects of the department's rehabilitation and transitional (light) duty programs for uniformed personnel who have been deemed non-operational due to injury (work-related and non-work related), illness, pregnancy or work performance issues.

Serves as the liaison with Risk Management and Public Safety Occupational Health Center (PSOHC) Medical Director and provides case management for work-related injuries/illnesses. Confers and maintains contact with supervisors who are in need of and utilize light duty support. Determines short and long-term assignments based on medical status and restrictions. Develops and administers light duty work agreements with each employee. Reviews medical status reports of employees assigned to light duty or on injury leave to monitor progress and ensure employees' compliance with rehabilitation activities. Consults with the Deputy Fire Chief (DFC) of the Safety and Personnel Services Division (SPSD), PSOHC Medical Director, physical therapist and Risk Management, etc., to discuss concerns and actions, as needed. Maintains a database to track and monitor employee progress and key dates. May initiate fitness for duty evaluations. Coordinates with the DFC of SPSD and the department's human resources manager to recommend personnel to the Uniform Retirement Board who have met maximum medical improvement (MMI) or who have been non-operational for 12 months. Ensures compliance with return-to-work policies and procedures. Assists in the investigation and evaluation of accidents and injuries. Assists in developing reports based on accident and injury statistics, identifying trends and patterns. Develops and maintains health and safety policies and procedures; evaluates effectiveness of health and safety programs.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area such as human resources, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and business management, statistics, mathematics, or related field.

Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background report to the satisfaction of the employer prior to employment.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Safety Officer (NFA), Incident Safety Officer and Health Safety Officer certifications. Completion of Live Burn Training (NFPA 1403). Knowledge of occupational safety and health issues and trends within the fire and emergency medical service industry; knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols and procedures; knowledge of OSHA reporting requirements. Very strong organizational skills and follow through. The ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization; the ability to handle multiple priorities and to prioritize same; strong customer service orientation; excellent interpersonal skills; outstanding verbal and written communication; demonstrated skills in keeping confidentiality.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and database maintenance skills.
