Description:

Inspects high-rise and commercial structures to ensure that structures conform to building codes and county standards, including the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, The International Building Code, The Fairfax County Code, The Fairfax County Special Inspection Program and approved plans. Serves as the Building Plan Review and Inspection Division representative on construction sites. Monitors Special Inspections program. Assist in the plan review of commercial buildings. Communicates development regulations to contractors, developers, engineers, other government agencies and citizens. Will be subject to emergency on call program. Duties performed under the supervision of the Chief, Critical Structures.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.

 

Special
Requirements:

Certification by the state of Virginia as a Commercial Building Inspector and Commercial Building Plans Examiner. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer. Possession of a valid driver's license.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

A strong technical knowledge of building codes and construction techniques, and the ability to perform structural calculations.

 

Note:

This position may be underfilled by a less experienced person at the Engineer II level (Grade S24, $54,552 to $72,736). Minimum qualifications for an Engineer II are: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus one year of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field. At the Engineer II level, the incumbent has 12 months to obtain one of the following certifications issued by DHCD: Commercial Building Inspector or Commercial Building Plans Examiner. Appointed incumbent will be non-competitively placed at the Engineer III level (Grade S27, $62,816 to $83,755) upon successfully satisfying the terms of the underfill agreement.
