Works from the Pennino Building in Fairfax as part of Foster Care and Adoption Resource and Support Program within the Children, Youth and Families Division. Serves as the supervisor of the Post-Adoption Services Unit. Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision to a unit of post-adoption social services specialists. The unit supports parents of children receiving post-adoption services by providing adoption search, referrals, coordinating services, and authorizing adoption assistance funding. Directs staff in conducting assessments, service planning and interventions to post adoption cases. Guides staff on policies, laws, and best practices related to post adoption services, separation and loss, family dynamics and child development. Occasionally is called upon to testify in court. Manages the unit resources, staff activity, and workload assignments. Ensures deadlines for all paperwork are met. Monitors compliance with legal and contractual mandates through the use of various computer applications and case management. Works with peers, supervisors and manager in shaping programmatic goals, priorities and objectives. Manages all audits related to Adoption Subsidies. Represents Fairfax and serves as an expert in post adoption services matters in state and local workgroups and committees. Assesses the implications and long-term consequences of new policies, laws and procedures on families. Establishes, maintains and nourishes partnerships with public and private providers in the community. Carries a reduced caseload.



Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.



Evening/weekend work occasionally required. Availability to travel out of the area by car or plane essential.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.



Post-adoption services experience. Bachelor's degree in social work (BSW) or master's degree in social work (MSW).
