PREVENTION MANAGER
(Program Manager)

Description:

Develops and implements prevention-oriented strategies to focus system and public attention on solutions to problems impacting children and youth. Assists in developing, strengthening and coordinating programs and practices aimed at reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors to ensure success for all Fairfax County children and youth, as defined by identified prevention system goals. Manages and coordinates interdepartmental and cross-sector projects. Participates in and facilitates workgroups. Provides coordination and focus for prevention and youth services planning processes. Coordinates and manages activities related to the Successful Children and Youth Policy Team and related subcommittees or workgroups. Facilitates strategic planning processes, policy analysis, data collection and reporting, benchmarking, and other senior-level staff work-related to prevention policy and program development. Conducts program evaluation and quality improvement efforts. Recommends data-informed improvement of services and programs.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in social services or human services, or with major course work in a specialty that confers within a community-based service delivery setting (for example, child development and family studies, education, public administration, recreation), or other related field; plus five years of professional experience in the social services, human services, or other community-based service delivery service or setting; two of which included supervising professional staff. A master's degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Master's degree in public administration, public policy, education, social work, public health, or a related field. Five years of progressively responsible professional, experience in a related field.

Knowledge of the fields of human services and education. Knowledge of the principles and practices of collective impact, prevention, results-based accountability, community building and engagement, and effective integrated service delivery. Experience in the following areas: youth development, public policy, program development and evaluation, performance measurement, team building and group facilitation, grant writing, research, management and supervision, and developing and monitoring budgets. Ability to: communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to use available technology and media tools to reach a range of audiences including department staff, senior county management, elected officials, partners, and the public; develop and manage relationships with a broad spectrum of partners; manage projects from conception to completion; build coalitions of support through negotiation and influence; and work effectively independently and with groups.
