Assigned to the Kinship Care Unit located in the Pennino Building. This position is part of the Family Partnership Program with the Department of Family Services' Children, Youth and Families Division.

Provides clinical social work services to a specific population, Kinship/Relative placement of children. Engages families in a model with a focus of parent reunification and/or family support as defined by the policies and procedures of the division/program. Completes casework and documentation in compliance with federal, state and local laws and procedures. Develops partnerships with community agencies to provide a holistic approach to service delivery, guaranteeing collaboration and coordination of services offered to families and children. Coordinates and attends intra-agency and inter-agency meetings to collaborate with team members to meet the needs of the families. Serves as a consultant, trainer and policy expert for other social workers in the department. Provides assistance to the unit's supervisor and provides coverage in the absence of the supervisor. Uses automated information systems to maintain case documentation. A flexible schedule including evening and/or weekend work may be required.



Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus three years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.



The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.



Master's degree in social work (MSW). Knowledge and skills using a strength-based family focus approach to working with families. Experience working with and familiarity with the needs of a diverse multicultural population. Experience working with the court system, testifying, filing affidavits, etc. Extensive experience with child welfare and/or mental health. Experience performing intensive home-based services. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
