Plans, organizes, manages, directs and evaluates environmental health (EH) program operations, which include professional, fiscal and human resource management functions. Serves as assistant to and acts for the director of environmental health in his/her absence. Develops technical policies and procedures. Ensures the enforcement of county, state and federal environmental laws, codes and regulations. Provides administrative review and technical supervision of the development, implementation and evaluation of a full range of information technology projects to support EH projects. Coordinates and provides managerial direction to EH supervisors. Manages the operation of program elements, staff and contract services through EH supervisors; maintains liaison with other county, state, and federal agencies and boards to enhance the goals and objectives of the Division. Provides oversight and guidance during the budget preparation; assists in the management of the strategic planning process for the division. Makes presentations to citizen groups and the media.



Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental health, or a bachelor's degree with at least 30 semester hours of course work in the physical or biological sciences; plus five years of experience in the environmental health field, at or equivalent to, the level of Environmental Health Specialist II, including at least two years of experience supervising environmental health investigative work.



Appointee to this position must possess a valid driver's license. Some interstate travel may be required to attend training courses and meetings. Evening and weekend work may be required. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.



Registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with the National Environmental Health Association is preferred and highly recommended.
