SENIOR ENGINEER III

Description:

As a Project Manager in the Building Design Branch, evaluates sites for development; and negotiates and manages architect/engineer contracts for capital projects development. Prepares and manages project cost estimates and capital budgets. Assures that capital projects are executed within established budgets and schedules. Coordinates Using Agency requirements into the design of complex county building projects for new construction and major renovations. Reviews plans and specifications for compliance with all local, state and federal code requirements. Presents projects to boards and authorities as well as community groups. Prepares value engineering studies; and evaluates projects for energy conservation, environmental considerations, and operational and maintenance requirements. Prepares special studies, project status reports and budget update reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.

 

Special
Requirements:

The appointee to the position must possess a valid Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license or Architect license (RA). An individual who possesses an Engineer or Architecture license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity. The individual will have six months from the date of employment with Fairfax County to obtain a Virginia PE or RA. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer. Primary job location is subject to change dependent on workload.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Must be highly motivated; possess the skills necessary to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment; and be oriented toward providing outstanding customer service to end users and project stakeholders. Project management experience in architectural or mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural or civil engineering field. Outstanding oral and written communications skills. Experience in planning, budgeting, design, construction, project management, and contract administration of building projects. Detailed knowledge of local, federal, and state building and site development codes. Advanced information technology skills including AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Project. Demonstrated expertise in managing multiple capital projects concurrently; and developing innovative and efficient project management practices for the expedited completion of capital projects. Experience conducting public meetings on capital project issues.
