FCPL Spring 2022 Highlights

Kanopy, Read and Feed, Amor Towles

As we enter spring and roll out the latest (online only) issue of Branch Out magazine, exciting things are going on around FCPL. Here are a few highlights of new resources, programs and events to look out for.

Access the Kanopy Streaming Service

FCPL cardholders can now access thousands of streaming videos during the library’s yearlong, grant-funded pilot with Kanopy. After creating a Kanopy account using your library credentials, enjoy Oscar-nominated, international and critically acclaimed films and documentaries, the Great Courses and Kanopy Kids. Kanopy Kids provides parental controls and unlimited educational options including Sesame Street, language learning videos and more!

Kanopy works on PCs and Macs, on mobile devices and on many smart TVs. Each account is assigned five "Play Credits" per month. Click here for directions to sign up.

Donate to the “Read and Feed” Drive

For several years, FCPL hosted a “Food for Fines” drive each fall to facilitate food donations to our partner organization Food for Others and to offer library cardholders relief on their fines. Since FCPL no longer charges overdue fines on most materials, the library is now hosting “Read and Feed” in April to continue its partnership with Food for Others.

Those who wish to give may simply drop off donations at any FCPL branch during its regular hours throughout the month of April. Click here to see what items are most needed.

Meet Bestselling Author Amor Towles

FCPL is sponsoring the in-person* appearance of New York Times bestselling novelist Amor Towles as part of Fall for the Book’s 2022 Spring Pop-Up Lit Nights series. Towles, author of A Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility, will discuss his latest book, The Lincoln Highway, at the Sherwood Center in Fairfax on April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Free tickets for this in-person event will be released on Eventbrite one week prior to the event: Thursday, April 14. Click here to register to receive an email notification as soon as tickets become available.

*COVID-19 PROTOCOL: Proof of vaccination and masking is required for this event. You must show a valid vaccination card (the printed card or a photo of it) and a photo ID along with your event ticket to be admitted.
