Fairfax Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Volunteers: Unless otherwise noted, register for classes using your TRAINVa account. First time registration in TRAINVa requires creation of an account; your VMS username and password will not work for this site. Get directions on creating an account.

FCPS Vision/Hearing Screening

When: September, October and November (multiple dates available)
Where: Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)

Every year Fairfax MRC supports FCPS with these very important screenings. We are still currently working on setting up Sign-up Genius for the various opportunities and have only updated the September Calendar.

MRC Orientation

Stride Forward, 5K and Family Health Fair

MRC Medical Countermeasures Dispensing Training

When: Saturday, September 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This four-hour course introduces the Fairfax County medical countermeasures plan for rapid medication dispensing and is intended for both medical and non-medical Fairfax MRC volunteers interested in working in a Point of Dispensing (POD). This training will be an in-depth examination of POD operations presented as two hours of instruction and two hours of hands on activities. Participants will learn about various POD models; read and review screening forms; understand medication dispensing, labeling, and packaging; learn about queue management and providing quality customer service in the greeting and exit units; work with the equipment and supplies available in a POD; and learn how to request additional resources. After this course, participants will have the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to staff a POD in any position requested of them in an emergency.

Venture into Volunteering

Citizen Corps Council Meeting

When: Thursday, September 28 from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m.

2017 MRC Summit

When: Saturday, October 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035

A special day of training and recognition offered to the Fairfax MRC volunteers for their invaluable volunteer service and ongoing commitment to the Fairfax Medical Reserve Corps. The summit will consist of a keynote address, various trainings and the awards distribution. Breakfast, lunch and other incentives will be provided.

Basic Training

All Fairfax MRC members must complete an application and the Basic Training Requirements to be considered an Active Level volunteer and participate in any MRC-related activity.

Basic Training Requirements include the following classes:

  • MRC 101: Orientation
  • FEMA IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction
  • FEMA IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System

New volunteers must complete MRC Orientation and Personal Preparedness to fulfill the personal preparedness training requirement.

Pending volunteers, who have completed their Orientation, must complete the Personal Preparedness Workshop prior to being accepted as an Active member of Fairfax MRC.

Active volunteers, who have already completed their Basic Training Requirements, must complete the Personal Preparedness Workshop by September 1, 2016.
