The 2015 election is over! Among the 95 candidates who ran in Fairfax County are the members of a new Board of Supervisors and a new School Board. There will also be a new General Assembly and changes in other offices. Do you know who will be your new local and state elected officials? What comes next?

On Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m., several local officials will take their oath of office in the Government Center forum, including the 10 members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors; Fairfax County constitutional officers including the sheriff, the commonwealth’s attorney and the clerk of the court; and the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District directors. You are welcome to attend a reception that begins at 5 p.m., followed by the ceremony. More information will be available soon at www.fairfaxcounty.gov. All elected officials will take office on Jan. 1, 2016.
Debates for both parties have already taken place with more to come, so the country and Fairfax County are full steam ahead for the 2016 election. Mark your calendar to vote on “Super Tuesday” March 1 in Virginia’s primaries for a Democratic and Republican candidate for president. Upcoming dates to note for the primary:
- Absentee voting begins Jan. 15, 2016
- Deadline to register to vote (in the primary) is Feb. 8, 2016
