Dec. 21: Pretty Lights

Festival of Lights: Drive the festival route from the comfort of your car; turn off your headlights and just follow the magical glow. After viewing the lights, bring your family and friends to the holiday village to enjoy rides, refreshments, and of course, photos with Santa Claus. From 5:30 to 10 p.m. at Bull Run Regional Park. Winter Solstice Campfire: Celebrate the winter solstice with a campfire and s’mores. Enjoy a naturalist’s presentation on winter solstice fact and fiction. From 7 to 8 p.m. at Hidden Oaks Nature Center. $7 per person. Ages 4 and older. Younger children should not attend. The event will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. Register online. “Man of La Mancha”: Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th-century masterpiece “Don Quixote,” “Man of La Mancha” is one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history. Powerful, brutal, hilarious and heartbreaking, it celebrates the perseverance of a dying old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. 8 p.m. at the Workhouse Arts Center. Dec. 22: Gather Round the Campfire

Caroling Wagon Ride and Campfire: Join us in song and exploration on a wagon ride. Warm up with s’mores at the campfire. From 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Ages 4 and up. $8 per person. Klondike Campfire Cookout: Prepare a winter meal with your family at using colonial and indigenous cooking techniques around the campfire. From 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Riverbend Park. Ages 3 and up. $15 per person. Food and drink are provided. Bring a flashlight and warm clothes. Register online. For more information, call 703-759-9018.

Reston Town Center Holiday Performances: Take a break from holiday errands and stop by for holiday songs outside and festive cheer. From 1 to 3 p.m. at Reston Town Center (between Market Street and Democracy Drive, across from Starbucks). All ages. Free. For more information call 703-390-6166.


Dec. 23: Sleigh Bells

Draft Horse Wagon Rides: Join Belgian draft horses Jeff and Charlie for a decorated wagon ride around the woodland and rolling farmland. These sturdy guides will put you in the holiday spirit of riding in a one-horse open sleigh — only with two horses pulling the wagon! From 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Frying Pan Farm Park. All ages. $6 per person. There is no online registration for the rides. Call the park’s Country Store at 703-435-3710 for ride availability.
