Getting a Read on Star Wars

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is set to hit the big screen this week and it’s sure to attract many of you to theaters around the county.

As we know from other examples, movies can pique the reading interests of all ages.

star wars book displayOur library has a large collection of Star Wars books. In fact, there are more than 500 titles, from the Lego Star Wars series for young children, nonfiction technical material, graphic novels and many other spin-off novels. Books about the Star Wars universe have been in publication since the first movie came out in 1977. However, the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney has created a whole new timeline and new official canon. In addition to old favorites, many new books are coming out about the new Star Wars universe.

Some of our library branches have set up displays highlighting available books, which have been very popular in recent days.

“Being a huge Star Wars fan, I put together a quick display at Fairfax Regional Library,” said John McGillvray. “I’ve had to refill it several times and maintain a small cart full of stuff at my desk for restocking.”

You can search the library’s catalog for Star Wars material. Depending on your search type (subject, title, words) different items will show up.
