Locally Poured: New Brewery Field Guide Highlights County’s Craft Beers

Local Breweries Header

Brewery Field GuideVisit Fairfax, the official tourism organization for Fairfax County, has partnered with the seven independent craft breweries in the county to create Locally Poured. The collaboration aims to showcase Fairfax County’s burgeoning craft beer scene and cross-promote the individual breweries to residents and visitors with the help of an official Field Guide and integrated marketing campaign.

You can pick up a free Fairfax County Brewery Field Guide at any of the participating breweries or at the Fairfax County Visitors Center. The passport-like guide encourages visitors to take a “Tour de Pour” around the county by visiting each unique brewery and marking the occasion by getting the Field Guide stamped. The guide also features a brewer-chosen “Must Try” and leaves room for Tasting Notes.

As a bonus, residents who collect stamps from at least four breweries can redeem their stamped Field Guide for upgraded VIP Access with their paid admission at the Fairfax County Brewfest on Sept. 22 at Mustang Sally Brewing Company.

Brewing Economic Growth

Fairfax County is encouraging craft brewing because it’s growing into a big business in Virginia and it will help to diversify our economy, an aim of the county’s strategic Economic Success Plan.

The county has taken action to open the taps for these businesses. Last year, new zoning rules were adopted that expand the areas where these craft producers may do business, allowing them in selected industrial, commercial and planned development districts.

Craft breweries employ 9,000 people and produce more than $1 billion in economic impact in the state, according to the Brewers Association. There are more than 130 licensed craft breweries in the state, including the seven listed above in Fairfax County.
