Just in the nick of time for the dog days of summer, the expansion at the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole in Lake Fairfax Park will open at noon on Saturday, Aug. 1. The $5.5 million expansion began in October 2014 and adds new thrills and excitement at the popular water park operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Lake Fairfax Park is located at 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston.
Additions that appeal to most ages include:
- Spray pads
- Climbable play structures
- Slide tower for three body flume slides
- Addition of a restroom with family changing rooms
More fun is coming in summer 2016 when additional improvements include individual cabanas, improved shaded seating areas, an additional play structure in the spray ground and food truck visits.
The Water Mine opened in 1997 and is one of several business growth initiatives contained in the Park Authority’s Financial Sustainability Plan.
