Curriculum

The Flipside: Stories Retold

During this year’s Winter Program children will let their imaginations run wild as they explore stories from a variety of genres and develop new twists to classic tales. Through the art of storytelling, children will learn the many different components that come together to make a good story such as the setting, character and plot development, and conflict and resolution. Teachers will encourage children to create original stories by “flipping” story outcomes and inspire children to use their creativity to re-invent gym games, re-think art and look at science in a different way. What might The Lion King look like if it was retold from Scar’s perspective? Was Scar just misunderstood? What would soccer look like if players used only their hands instead of their feet? What if we make some of our favorite recipes but swap out a few of the ingredients? Let’s have fun and dive into stories and activities retold on the flipside.

Lunch
Your child will need a packed lunch and beverage each day. Please label both with your child's name and the date.

Snacks
Snacks are provided in the morning and afternoon. A snack menu will be provided.

Health and Safety
SACC centers are required to have accurate and up-to-date emergency information for all children. This information is part of the Child Information for SACC Records form which parents must complete for each child enrolled. Contact information is required for at least two persons who may pick up your child in the event of an emergency if you cannot be reached. Children will be released from SACC only to the persons listed on their Child Information for SACC Records form as parents/guardians, emergency contacts or authorized pick-up persons. Any authorized pick-up person unfamiliar to the center staff must show photo identification. Children will not be released to walk home alone.

Current Families
If your child is enrolled in SACC before school, or after school during the school year, a copy of your child's Child Information for SACC Records form and School Entrance Health form and immunization record will be transferred to your winter program site. Please see your center staff to verify that the information on the Child Information for SACC Records form is accurate and up-to-date, and to verify that both copies of the form have an original signature.

New Families
If your child does not attend SACC during the school year program, but is enrolled in the winter program, you will need to provide SACC with a copy of your child's School Entrance Health form and Immunization Record, a completed Child Information for SACC Records form and show proof of your child's identity (birth certificate, report card, passport or Social Security card).

Cancellation Reminder
If your plans change, please remember that SACC requires 2 weeks advance notice to cancel service. Service must be cancelled in advance to avoid being responsible for payment. Cancellations may be made by calling 703-449-8989 or by emailing SACC Registration. Please include your name, your child's name, account number, center name and service to be cancelled.
