Internships with Sully Historic Site

Title: Museum Aide - Sully Historic Site

Description: Intern to assist in public programming, history camps and giving public tours. Also learn behind the scenes museum operations such as collections care, museum administration/ filing in a unique historic house environment. Tasks include: opening and closing buildings, caring for collections items, giving tours, working with school age children for history camp, doing office administrative duties. Available year round.

Requirements: College student or graduate with an interest in history, museum studies, historic preservation, education, or historic object collections.

Title: Museum Education Aide - Sully Historic Site

Description: Update Sully’s education website and packet on line, prepare and send informational mailing to the schools for the upcoming school year, update Sully’s SOL links with the current VA SOLs, observe and teach Sully’s museum education program that highlights daily life of the Lee family of the federal period. Available year round.

Requirements: College student or graduate with an interest in history, museum studies, historic preservation, education, or historic object collections.

Title: Collections Assistant - Sully Historic Site

Description: Students learn the cleaning of collections, inventory, care and handling of collections, cataloging, and research into reproductions and period sources. Highlight a collection item each month for the Sully Snippets, and possibly for the FCPA blog and Sully webpage. Available year round.

Requirements: College student or graduate with an interest in history, museum studies, historic preservation, education, or historic object collections.

Title: Historic Document and Administrative Support Intern - Sully Historic Site

Description: Work closely with Sully staff to organize historical documentation and paperwork from a variety of projects. Administrative support includes, but is not limited to, park administrative filing, document scanning and filing, photo organization and labeling, answering phones, responding to public inquiries, development of flyers and brochures, and online program/event marketing entries.

Title: Horticulture and Garden Intern - Sully Historic Site

Description: Learns history of federal period gardens and landscape. With Sully volunteer gardeners, propagates heirloom plants, weeds, prunes, works with volunteer work groups, and interprets garden to the public. Available year round.

Requirements: College student or graduate with an interest in history, museum studies, historic preservation, education, or historic object collections.
