Project Set to Improve Sugarland Run Stream Valley Water Quality

The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES), in partnership with the Fairfax County Park Authority, has begun work on the Cliveden Street Basketball Court Stormwater Enhancement Project at Sugarland Run Stream Valley Park.

The asphalt court had fallen into disrepair due to frequent flooding and was no longer usable. Crews have recently removed the court and will be installing native plants and vegetation to restore the forest, enhance the stream valley’s ecosystem functions, and ultimately improve the water quality of Sugarland Run, its watershed, and the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, visitors to Sugarland Run Stream Valley Park will soon see an improvement to the natural environment along the Sugarland Run Trail.

Landscaping contractors will be installing native trees and shrubs later this fall. In the meantime, the area has been seeded and temporary fencing placed around the site. Residents should expect some periodic construction traffic along the Sugarland Run Trail while the work is finished. We appreciate your patience.
