Work to restore Dead Run within McLean Central Park and Dead Run Stream Valley Park between Old Dominion Road and Churchill Road is set to begin shortly.
The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services has contracted with Meadville Land Service, Inc., to begin work this month. The project involves restoration of approximately 3,000 linear feet of stream in Dead Run, three unnamed tributaries and a pedestrian bridge replacement. The vegetated stream buffer will also be restored and enhanced with native plant species to promote natural reforestation. Active construction is expected to be complete in April 2019.
During the project, there will be construction access off Martha Jane Street, Oak Ridge Avenue and Churchill Road, and there will be some temporary closures along the existing trail network to ensure public safety. In anticipation of the project, DPWES Stormwater Planning Division staff members conducted numerous community outreach efforts and worked on invasive plant management control.
McLean Central Park is located at 1468 Dolley Madison Boulevard in McLean, VA. Dead Run Stream Valley Park is located directly to the northeast of McLean Central Park.
