Start your Halloween celebration early this year with a host of fall activities in the parks the weekend of October 18-20, 2019.
The action begins on Friday, October 18, 2019, with “Pumpkins By The Campfire” at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Bring a small pumpkin to decorate and play games. Roast marshmallows at the campfire, enjoy cookies and juice, and make crafts as park staff share non-scary stories about pumpkins. The program for participants age four to adult runs from 6 to 7:05 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.

On Saturday, head to Lake Accotink Park for “Color Me Autumn.” Celebrate fall and wrap up the park’s 2019 marina season. Participate in the pet costume contest, wear your favorite costume to the photo station, and let kids hunt for buried pirate treasure on the beach. Enjoy hayrides, kayak tours, face painting, a live bird exhibit, carnival style games, mini golf, carousel rides, a history talk, food trucks, a campfire bat talk, s’mores, and more. The program runs from 1 to 7 p.m., and the cost is $7 per person. Some activities require a fee.

Wrap things up on Sunday, October 20 by creating a “Boo-Tiful Mobile” at Hidden Pond Nature Center. Children age 3 to 12 are invited to create a spooky mobile for Halloween of their favorite Halloween characters. All materials will be provided for the craft. The program runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m., and the cost is $10 per child. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
