Campfire programs are popping up at four parks across the county on Saturday, November 9, 2019, so there’s no excuse to stay indoors.
Ellanor C. Lawrence Park will host an “Owl Prowl and Campfire” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Join a naturalist for a night hike to learn about the different owls that can be found in the park. Listen for calls and learn how owls navigate the night. Then, enjoy s'mores at a campfire. The program is designed for participants age eight to adult, and the cost is $8 per person. Ellanor C. Join the “Night Hike Campfire” at Riverbend Park from 5 to 7 p.m. This nighttime walk with a naturalist is designed for participants age three to adult. Go on a search for wildlife and finish the evening with a campfire. S'mores ingredients are provided. Drop by Lake Fairfax Park for the “My Sky Tonight Campfire” for participants age four to adult. Learn about the constellations and other night sky features while you enjoy a campfire and toast s'mores. Each family will receive a guide to the season's night sky. The program runs from 7 to 8 p.m., and the cost is $7 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult registered in the program. This event is not appropriate for children younger than age four. During the “Campfire Saturdays-Stargazing” program at Burke Lake Park, enjoy a stroll along the lakeshore and learn about the constellations, their stories and other night-sky features. An astronomical naturalist will identify the stars for you and have some telescopes for you to use. The program concludes with a campfire. S'mores ingredients are provided; hot dogs are welcome.
