There will be music in the air this summer at Grist Mill Park and the Workhouse Arts Center as the Mount Vernon Nights Concert Series returns.

This series of free, public concerts will feature a variety of musical performances reflecting Fairfax County’s diversity, culture and community spirit. Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket and enjoy one of Fairfax County’s special summer traditions. As a bonus, come early to the Workhouse Arts Center to explore its vibrant arts scene.

Grist Mill Park, located at 4710 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway in Alexandria, offers concerts on Friday nights from June 7 through August 30. Shows run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The West Potomac High School Jazz Band kicks off this season’s performances. Following weeks will feature musical styles from soul to and pop and bluegrass and rock.

The Workhouse Arts Center, located at 9518 Workhouse Way in Lorton, has Saturday evening concerts from 7 to 8 p.m. from June 8 through August 31. South County High School’s Jazz Band is first in the lineup for that series. Come back in later weeks for performances ranging from disco to  Indian Bollywood and acoustic blues to big band.
