A ribbon-cutting ceremony and azalea planting have been scheduled to mark completion of work at the fully redesigned Azalea Park in Falls Church, Virginia. Events will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019. A community picnic will follow.
Azalea Park now features new play equipment for all age groups, adult exercise equipment, seating areas, picnic tables, and landscaping featuring the park’s namesake azaleas. The Park Authority worked closely with the Greater Hillwood Citizens Association to plan the improvements for the park, and the planning and construction process was completed in about one year. As part of the process, the citizens association formed a volunteer group to provide enhanced maintenance of the park’s landscaping. The park is heavily covered with mature trees and maintaining the character of the park through careful design choices was an important principal applied throughout the project.
Cunningham Recreation, Custom Park Solutions, and Denison Landscaping provided services for the project, which had a total cost of $176,500. Funding was acquired through proffers.
Azalea Park is located at 2905 Cleave Drive, Falls Church, VA.
