Plant a Row in your Garden to Benefit Food for Others

Plant a Row in your Garden to Benefit Food for Others

Use your love of gardening to help those in need.

The county’s Providence District Office is working with Food for Others to encourage gardeners who are planting fruits, vegetables and herbs this spring to consider dedicating some garden space to donations.

Pledge to “Plant a Row” at this link and you may get some free seeds to get started. The program has a limited supply of about 100 seed packets to give to those making the pledge. This initiative is aimed at those working in newly-reopened Park Authority garden plots, as well as others who want to lend a hand in this time of need.

The Providence District is home to Food for Others, which is a 501(c)(3) organization working to help those in Northern Virginia who are food insecure. Since schools and most workplaces closed in mid-March, three times more families have been relying on Food for Others to feed their households.

Please consider helping these families get fresh, local produce by starting a garden and donating produce to Food for Others. For more information, email Providence@fairfaxcounty.gov.
