Ring in the new year by celebrating 70 years of Fairfax County parks! First Hike Fairfax returns with special prizes just for the Park Authority’s 70th anniversary. This year, First Hike Fairfax will be a three-day event (Jan. 1-3, 2021) to help promote social distancing and prevent crowding on the trails on one day. Once again, the Park Authority joins America’s State Parks and Virginia State Parks for First Day Hike Programs for this annual event. First Hike Fairfax is presented in partnership with the Fairfax County Park Foundation.
It’s easy and fun. Visit any Fairfax County Park Authority trail January 1-3, 2021. Pick your favorite photo that celebrates your hike and the scenery you encounter. Then enter the Fairfax County Park Authority’s First Hike Photo Contest by January 3. Entries will be eligible to win prizes in one of the following six categories:
- People’s Choice: $70 Park Authority Gift Card OR a 6-Month FCPA RECenter Leisure Fitness Pass
- Judges’ Choice – $70 Park Authority Gift Card OR 25-visit FCPA RECenter Discount Fast Pass
- Directors Choice: $70 Park Authority Gift Card
- Best in Show (Scenery/Landscapes): $70 Park Authority Gift Card
- Best in Show (People): $70 Park Authority Gift Card
- Best in Show (Wildlife): $70 Park Authority Gift Card
Participants may hike on trails in any Fairfax County Park Authority parks. Information on Fairfax County trails may be found at Trail Buddy. Five starter hikes may also be found at First Hike Fairfax.
The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers. These is a one photo entry per person limit. Photos must be JPG or PNG format. Entrants may be asked to verify that the hike took place on a Fairfax County Park Authority trail on January 1, 2020. Participants must adhere to all park rules and COVID-19 safety protocols; photos depicting violation of rules or protocols will be disqualified. Visit First Hike Fairfax for full contest rules.
