Hours Modified at Fairfax Park Facilities over Thanksgiving Holiday
Get in the Know
Fairfax County park facilities will be operating on modified hours over the 2016 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but residents will still have plenty of opportunities to work off those Thanksgiving meals and get out to enjoy the parks.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 the George Washington RECenter will be closed, but the county’s eight other RECenters will open at their normal time and stay open until noon. Classes will not be offered at the RECenters on Thanksgiving Day, with the exception of South Run’s special Turkey Burn fitness classes from 7 to 11 a.m. RECenters will operate on their usual schedule the remainder of the holiday weekend, but regular fitness and aquatic classes will not meet. Some specialty aquatic and drop-in group exercise classes may be in session. Check with the instructor.
All Park Authority historic sites, nature centers and visitor centers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, November 25, the Colvin Run and Sully Historic sites will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park nature and visitor centers at Ellanor C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond, Huntley Meadows and Riverbend will be open noon to 5 p.m. The farm at Frying Pan Farm Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the visitor center from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. At Green Spring Gardens, the horticultural center will be open from noon to 4:30 p.m. The historic house will be closed.
Classes scheduled to meet at park facilities only one time on the holiday will meet as scheduled. No classes scheduled at school facilities will meet over the four-day holiday weekend. For classes at private business or non-FCPA locations, please contact the vendor or instructor directly for holiday class schedules.
