Fear-less Fest Returns to Hidden Oaks Nature Center
Fear-less Fest is returning for a twelfth year to Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale, Virginia. One of the park’s more popular annual holiday programs arrives on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
Park naturalists lead adventurous night hikes, and along the way park visitors meet costumed characters that include a black widow spider, a skunk, an owl, a raccoon and a dead tree. The characters explain why they have undeserved, scary reputations. The walk is one-third of a mile long on a wood-chipped trail.
Visitors also get to meet real animals, investigate their skeletons, and peer at owl pellets to learn what’s been eaten. There also will be crafts.
The program is excellent for young scouts, and children are encouraged to come in costume. Children must be accompanied by an adult registered in the program.
Groups are guided in sets of approximately 15 people. Scout groups are led separately.
There are two start times on the eve of the event: 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The program lasts about an hour and a-half. The cost is $7 for Fairfax County residents and $9 for out-of-county visitors.
