1. Food Drive - Supervisor Smyth's Office/Food for Others

Location: 8739 Lee Highway, Fairfax - this location is also accepting donated items for the Book Sale and Winter Clothing projects.
Drop off time: October 18 - 24 - 24 hours a day

2. Book Sale - The Friends of Oakton Library

Location: 2854 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton (Unity of Fairfax Church) - Time: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Drop off time: Providence District Supervisor's Office or by contacting the Friends of the Oakton Library at littlelulu8@yahoo.com

3. Health Fair - Inova Health System/Fairfax County Health Department

Location: 2854 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton (Unity of Fairfax Church)
Time: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

4. Computer Recycling Day and Meditation Walk - EcoStewards Alliance

Recycling Event has been cancelled due to rain and has been rescheduled for October 29 at this same location from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - please refer to the EcoStewards Alliance Web site.

5. Removing Invasive Plant Species from the W&OD Trail Project - Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority

7. Excavating the Essex (word doc with
graphics) - The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation

This project has been cancelled due to rain. The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation invites volunteers to an archeological dig to excavate a 1928 Essex.

8. Kingsley Park Community Day - Kingsley Park Community/Volunteer Fairfax

Location: Kingsley Commons Resource Center- 7308 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church.
Time: 1p.m. - 4 p.m.

9. Adopt a Soldier (word doc with graphics) - James Lee Community Center and USPS

Come and join the James Lee Community as they collect and pack items for our troops.

Location: 2855-A James Lee Street, Falls Church (off of Annandale Road)
Time: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

10. Event Promotions - Providence Players /Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs

Location: 2855-A James Lee Street, Falls Church (James Lee Community Center Theater)
Time: The Providence Player's 2005-2006 Season opens on October 14 at 7:30 p.m.

The Providence Players are a community theater group who perform at the James Lee Community Theater. Their next performance is Women which opens on October 14 and the Players would like to invite the community to an evening of entertainment.

11. New Winter Children's Clothing Collection - Fairfax County Human Services Council/Public Schools

Location: Schools located in Providence District (please check with your school); Volunteer Fairfax at 10530 Page Avenue, Fairfax; Leadership Fairfax, Inc. at 8230 Old Courthouse Road, Vienna;
Zimmerman Associates, Inc. at 9302 Lee Highway, Fairfax or by emailing dfleming@zai-inc.com.
Time: October 17 - 23 - 24 hours a day (check location for donation hours).

12. Merrifield Festival - Greater Merrifield Business Association

Location: 3020 Gallows Road, Fairfax (Luther Jackson Middle School)
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Come and enjoy a day filled with the sights and sounds of Merrifield: demonstrations by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Safety, Fairfax County Police, Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Workshop, basketball free throw competitions, take part in sight and hearing screening hosted by the Lion's Club or Home Depot project, plus food vendors, arts and crafts, moon bounce and face painting and much more!
