Board of Supervisors Authorizes Advertised Tax Rate of $1.155

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors authorized advertisement of a real estate tax  for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 of $1.155 per $100 of assessed value at their meeting today, Tuesday, March 6. The current FY 2018 rate is $1.13.

The advertised tax rate becomes the "ceiling" for how high the tax rate could be increased. The tax rate that will be adopted on May 1 can be the same as or less than what was advertised, but not higher.

Each one cent increase in the real estate tax rate impacts the average homeowner’s annual bill by approximately $55.

You can sign up to speak at a public hearing on the effective tax rate on April 10 at 3 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors auditorium at the Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.

The schedule for public hearings on the budget will be held at the same location as follows:

The public hearings are televised on Channel 16, streamed live online and available to view on demand following the meeting.
