The Fairfax County Electoral Board recently appointed Gary Scott as general registrar and director of elections. Fairfax County is the largest jurisdiction in Virginia with more than 700,000 registered voters and 243 voter precincts. Role of general registrar in Virginia elections.
Scott has worked for the county's Office of Elections for 22 years. He had been the deputy registrar for the county since 1997, with responsibilities including managing voter registration, absentee voting and outreach programs. Prior to becoming deputy registrar, he was the office manager for the county’s Office of the General Registrar.
Scott served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1975 to 1994 and graduated cum laude from Texas Tech University in 1975.
