Mount Vernon Memorial Highway Trail from George Washington’s Gristmill Entrance to Southwood Drive

Location – Mount Vernon District
Scope - Construction of the missing segments within the Fairfax County portion of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. The project consists of the construction of approximately 6,200 linear feet of ten foot wide, asphalt trail. The project is located adjacent to the north side of Mount Vernon Memorial Highway between George Washington’s Gristmill entranceand Southwood Drive. The project also involves the construction of a new pedestrian bridge adjacent to the Mount Vernon Memorial Highway bridge spanning Dogue Creek. A proposed storm sewer system will be installed to replace the existing roadside ditch and to minimize property impacts.
